Blackboard FAQ
Blackboard FAQ
Q: The discussion icon in Blackboard is showing even when there are no new postings, can this be fixed?
A: Unfortunately, this is a known issue within the Blackboard Platform. Blackboard is aware of this matter, and are working on the issue within the system.
Q: I am trying to delete a column in the grade book, but it won't let me. How do I delete columns?
A: In order to delete columns you have to be on the "view all" tab and click on the grade book options column settings. If the column is black then it means it is attached to an assignment or an assessment. You have to delete the assignment or assessment first. After you do that, then go back into the column settings and the column should be blue. You can only delete blue columns. Some columns can't be deleted no matter what. They are standard columns in Blackboard like last name, first name, midterm, etc. In the column settings, check to see that "YES" appears in any column you want you students to see and "NO" appears where you don't want them to see it.
Q: Are Hybrid Courses the same as Web Enhanced Courses?
A: No. Hybrid Courses represent one of the three categories of online education (online, blended, & hybrid). In a Hybrid Course, the student works 50% of the time online and the other 50% of the time is classroom instruction. Web Enhanced shells are not Distance Learning courses. Web Enhanced shells are Blackboard shells used by face to face Faculty to enhance their classroom courses.
Q: Why do I keep making the Blackboard shell backups? It's not like we can open or examine them?
A: Once Banner and Blackboard are integrated (this coming Fall 2009) you will be able to use this backup to load your own course without the need to wait for the DL department to do it for you. In theory, you might be able to move between terms without the need of contacting us.
Q: I cant seem to save my backups- they have task in progress forever. The backup shows completed but we have to save them somewhere else-I'm saving to my files-any suggestions?
A: For some very large courses, the initial status of your backup will show "in the queue" for a long time. A good trick is to refresh this page until you see the status as "completed". Once completed, the backup needs to be saved (Save as File) in the My Files area. Once this happens, then you need to open the File Manager (look for My Files not the Class Files) and download this saved file to your computer.
