Workload Definitions
Course Workload: The course contact hour in addition to the course office hour, equals the course workload (contact hour + office hour = workload).
Offset: Courses that are not paid, but are used to reduce a course assignment a faculty member is required to teach in a future semester within the academic calendar year.
Overload: Course being taught above a full-time faculty member’s regular course load. Overloads are paid at an hourly rate defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- Overload assignments for full-time faculty are governed by the Full-time Faculty Agreement.
- Effective with Fall Semester 2018, overload pay will be calculated based on each credit hour the class is scheduled for.
- The value per credit hour varies depending on the method of instruction.
- Office hours will still be required, if applicable.
- No leave is accrued for working an overload but accrued leave can be used while working overloads.
- When a full-time faculty member is absent from a scheduled class assignment and leave has not been approved, pay will be docked accordingly.
- Each credit hour is viewed as a ‘complete package’.
- All course design is expected to be included in the ‘complete package’.
- The college cannot pay for additional hours that faculty use for grading.
