CNM Ingenuity Launches Online Job Portal for Older Adults
CNM Ingenuity's New Mexico New Elder World (NM-NEW) program is excited to announce the launch of the Engagement Connection Center (ECC), a job portal to help adults aged 50 to 70+ find job opportunities that leverage their unique skills and experiences.
"We're thrilled to announce that the Engagement Connection Center is live," says Victor Ortiz, NM-NEW's Senior Program Manager. "This platform is similar to Indeed, but with the specific goal of matching older adults with job and volunteer opportunities, as well as serving as a hub for employers to recruit and engage with the elder population."
NM-NEW aims to provide retirees with meaningful opportunities and support so they can contribute to the community and economy at their own pace. CNM Ingenuity acquired NM-NEW in July of 2023 and has been working to expand and improve services for the elder population.
The ECC serves two unique populations – older adults and local employers. For older adults, the ECC is a platform for them to build a profile and highlight their professional skills and expertise. As an employer, the ECC is an online space to post job opportunities, board openings, or even volunteer positions.
Several local employers, including CNM, the City of Albuquerque, Presbyterian Health Services, and various non-profit organizations are already taking advantage of the ECC platform. As the platform continues to grow, Paula Getz, founder of NM-NEW and a consultant for the program, anticipates the number of employer participants to increase.
“Now that the ECC is live and we have older adults and employers using the platform, it’s time for the matching to begin,” Paula says. “Several other Albuquerque-based employers are set to join the ECC network, and we want to encourage employers from Valencia and Sandoval Counties, Santa Fe, and across the state of New Mexico to take advantage of this valuable resource.”
Along with the ECC, NM-NEW offers several other resources and learning opportunities to help older adults find work and build community. They host workshops that cover topics like financial planning and multi-cultural workplace training, and helped develop a job seeker guide for older adults and a guide for employers about creating an age-friendly workplace.
Looking forward, Victor and Paula are excited to continue to connect older adults with guidance, resources, and opportunities as they enter the next chapter in their lives. They also want to encourage both employers and older adults to participate in the growing ECC network.
“The benefits of the ECC for employers and older adults are numerous,” Victor says. “Employers can benefit from an older adult’s experience, commitment, and drive, especially in mentoring or consulting roles that require more extensive knowledge and industry insights. On the other hand, older adults who utilize the ECC and all NM-NEW's resources can find purpose and community in the next stage of their lives.”
