How CNM Ingenuity's CDL Program Helped This Grad Launch a New and Successful Business

Earlier this year Nehemiah Vazquez was out of work and ready for a career change. The opportunity to buy Chamisal Septic Services came up but he needed a CDL license to fully own and operate the business. That’s where ABQ CDL, a CNM Ingenuity program, came in. In just weeks, he was able to get his license and take over the business.

“I had already completed the entry-level driving training and passed the pre-licensing exams, but I didn’t realize I needed to complete behind-the-wheel hours,” Nehemiah explains. “So, I started looking at different programs and through ABQ CDL I was able to enroll in only the sections I needed on a schedule that worked for me. It was the perfect fit.”

Over five weeks, Nehemiah worked with an instructor to learn the processes and techniques needed to pass the CDL exam and earn his Class B license.

“Getting behind the wheel was very beneficial for me, and the instructors were so knowledgeable,” he says. “I felt more than prepared to take the test at the end of the five weeks.”

Along with the flexibility of the program, Nehemiah was grateful for the funding assistance he received to pay for the course. With the help of Training for Your Future Funding, which helps cover tuition for individuals completing workforce training program through CNM Ingenuity, the full cost of the program was covered.

“Having the entire cost of the course covered was huge for me, especially since the business wasn’t fully operational at the time,” he says.

Nehemiah passed his CDL licensing exam in February and has been focused on growing Chamisal Septic Services and serving the local communities. He also plans to eventually go back to ABQ CDL to earn his Class A CDL license.

He wants to encourage anyone who’s interested in earning their CDL to give ABQ CDL a try.

“I have already recommended this program to several people because it was such a helpful and efficient process,” Nehemiah says. “Even though I only completed part of my training there, I left feeling well-prepared and confident in my abilities, and I think that speaks to the quality of the program.”
