How to Celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month This April
National Arab American Heritage (NAAHM) month offers us the opportunity to celebrate and support the diverse cultures and contributions of Arab Americans. Although NAAHM has been recognized sporadically since the 1990s, in 2019, a congressional resolution was introduced and in 2021 the White House recognized April as the celebratory month on the federal level. On March 31, President Biden issued A Historic Proclamation on Arab American Heritage Month, 2023. The proclamation celebrates the immeasurable contributions of Arab Americans and those who trace their ancestry to North Africa and the Middle East, while also acknowledging that bias and discrimination continues against these communities.
Arab Americans are part of New Mexico’s and Albuquerque’s rich and dynamic story from our inception to statehood through the present day. The resources below can help us celebrate Arab American Heritage month at CNM this month and throughout the year.
