'Technicians of Tomorrow' Event Highlights Fast-Growing Careers in Manufacturing
Over the next 10 years the manufacturing industry will likely need to fill nearly four million technician jobs. That’s why CNM and Unmudl have partnered to host the Technicians of Tomorrow Expo on July 19, which is designed to provide important information about this growing workforce need.
“Technician jobs are growing far beyond the national average, but what we’re seeing is that a lot of people don’t know just how many opportunities are out there,” says Daniel Gillaspia, an Unmudl Marketing Strategist. “The goal of this event is to educate and connect potential learners with employers and help them enter the booming technician workforce.”
CNM is a founding community college for Unmudl, an online skills-to-jobs marketplace.
The Expo will be held in person at CNM’s Advanced Technology Center (4700 Alameda Blvd., 87113) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. During the event, current and potential learners will have the chance to meet with employers from industries including manufacturing, solar, and mechatronics. There will also be tours of the ATC classrooms and lab spaces, as well as a panel discussion with industry professionals from Amazon, Intel, General Mills, and Maxeon.
“This event will be a great opportunity for students already in this field or for people looking to get into this field to see the career possibilities available to them,” says Allison Pendell-Jones, Senior Program Manager at CNM Ingenuity.
One of the key reasons there’s such a huge need for technicians is because these jobs are designed to work alongside artificial intelligence (AI) rather than against it.
“A lot of people are worried about losing their jobs to AI and automation, but as a technician your job is often to make sure the automation is working correctly, making these jobs almost ‘AI-proof,’” Daniel says.
As they look forward to the event, Allison and Daniel hope participants leave feeling inspired and confident about the career paths available to them.
“My biggest hope is that students and potential learners leave the event knowing that a career as a technician is accessible to them,” Allison says. “These jobs are growing rapidly, and I’m excited to share those opportunities with our community.”
If you would like to attend the Technicians of Tomorrow Expo on July 19, please RSVP. The event will be held at CNM’s Advanced Technology Center (4700 Alameda Blvd.) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
