September is Campus Safety Awareness Month; Join CNM Security for Activities All Month Long
The CNM Security Department is excited to celebrate Campus Safety Awareness Month with several events and trainings to help students, faculty, and staff feel safe and empowered while on campus.
“Campus Safety is everyone’s responsibility and the most effective efforts to ensure a secure campus environment come from collaboration among campus staff, administration, students, and community organizations,” says John Corvino, CNM’s Chief of Security. “The Security Department looks forward to every year and we’re excited to interact with students and employees!”
Each year, Chief Corvino and his team host several events that range from active shooter training to “Coffee with Security” to help students and employees learn about the various prevention and safety programs and resources available on and off campus.
They’ve also added new events this year designed to engage CNM students.
“This year, we’re excited to host a bingo event, where we’ll highlight Security Safety Tips, along with an alcohol awareness and prevention activity,” says Chief Corvino. “We’re also hosting a workshop called ‘Avoid Alcohol Risks: Drink Mocktails’ that will provide information on the consequences of alcohol use and offer a chance to try mocktail alternatives.”
The Security Team has already hosted their first “Coffee with Security”, and they’re looking forward to engaging with the CNM community throughout September. They also hope these events help everyone on campus feel safe and knowledgeable about what to do in an emergency.
“We hope the folks who attend these events gain valuable security and safety information, take advantage of the free training sessions, get to know their security personnel, and of course have fun,” says Chief Corvino. “We also want everyone on campus to feel at ease reaching out to Security for assistance or to report any suspicious activity.”
