Students and Graduates With Medical Training Needed for COVID-19 Surge

Three times a week, Jennifer Buntz heads out to a city-run site at the Super 8 motel on Yale Boulevard to help care for people who have tested positive, or are waiting for their test results for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. The patients are homeless, or are being quarantined to avoid exposing other people in their household.

“Facilities like this one are serving a critical need because these patients don’t need to be in the hospital, but they can’t be around others,” Jennifer says. “Now these facilities need all the help they can get.”

Jennifer volunteers through the Medical Reserve Corps and says that organization is currently looking for current CNM students or graduates who can help as EMTs, RNs, MAs, CNAs, or Paramedics at a number of facilities across the state including Albuquerque, Gallup, Farmington, Carlsbad, Hobbs, Deming, and at the Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino. All those locations are offering paid positions and temporary housing. 

“The homeless population across the state is often underserved and now they need more help than ever,” Jennifer says.
