In honor of National Recovery Month, Wellness CNM is hosting a Recovery Celebration on September 25 on Main Campus in the Student Resource Center, Room 204 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. This is the first year Wellness CNM will hold an event focused on substance abuse recovery.

"Wellness CNM is proud to honor our students, staff, faculty, families, and community members who are in recovery, as well as those who are supporting individuals on their recovery journey,” says Mia Mendoza, Director of Wellness CNM. “The goal of this event is to help break down stigma and foster a sense of community so we create an environment where everyone can thrive."

During the event, CNM students will have the chance to connect with substance abuse and recovery services, as well as other wellness and health insurance organizations like Presbyterian, the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico, and BeWell NM.

There will also be small breakout sessions for students to attend, including a sound bath meditation and a Harm Reduction and NARCAN training led by Bernalillo County.

“While this is a recovery celebration, there will be so many resources for all CNM students, not just those seeking or in recovery,” says Kali Hanks, Student Ambassador for Wellness CNM. “Whether students need help connecting with a therapist, finding insurance, or just want to learn how to help those in recovery, all CNM students can benefit from this event.”

The ultimate goal of the event is to show all CNM students that they have a community of support standing behind them.

“There is an unfortunate stigma surrounding recovery, and my biggest hope is that this event will help break down that stigma,” Kali says. “This is a great opportunity for students to feel seen, celebrated, and supported as they continue on their recovery journey.”
