The Biotechnology program at CNM offers both an Associate of Science and a Certificate of Completion, equipping you with the essential skills and knowledge needed for a successful path in this dynamic field. As a student in our Biotechnology program, you'll prepare for a seamless transfer to a four-year institution, focusing on the biological sciences.
With a bachelor’s degree, you’ll be ready to compete for positions as a Biotechnician, where you’ll utilize cutting-edge technology to uncover the molecular causes of disease, develop new drugs and therapies, enhance agricultural products, or remediate environmental problems. Biotechnicians conduct research experiments, run assays, operate lab equipment and help manage laboratory activities by maintaining records, performing data analysis, and establishing and maintaining quality controls.
Our curriculum combines engaging lectures with hands-on laboratory experience, allowing you to master vital techniques in molecular biology, recombinant DNA, protein isolation and analysis, immunology, and cell culture skills. Kieran Mikolajova, a UNM Biotechnology student who got her start in the CNM Biotechnology program, emphasizes our program’s impact: “It gave me the foundational skills, tools, and techniques needed to cover all of my bases.”
