Program Information
A sonographer is a health care professional who uses high-frequency sound waves as a diagnostic tool to view the human body in order to aid the physician in the diagnosis of illness. You will study the use of sound waves to generate images of various parts of the human body.
As a graduate, you will have the ability to conceptualize in three-dimensional form. The program provides classroom didactic instruction, hands-on scanning, laboratory instruction, and clinical experiences in a variety of medical facilities and outpatient diagnostic centers. You will be trained to sit for the national board exams administered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the specialty areas of “Abdomen,” “Obstetrics and Gynecology” and “Breast.” Successful completion of this exam results in attaining the RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) credential.
Career Opportunities
Diagnostic Medical Sonographers who have been trained in CNM's rigorous program are in demand nationwide. Graduates can find employment as sonographers in hospitals, physician's offices, and private sonography practices.

Special Requirements
Due to limited seating, the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program requires you to complete a screening process before registering for classes in the program. Learn more about the screening criteria and deadlines from the Coordinated Program Entry Office.
Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)
If you have a valid RDCS or RVT credential, you can receive credit for courses in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program by filling out the Credit for Prior Learning (Diagnostic Medical Sonography) form.
