CNM's Environmental Planning and Design program offers you a unique opportunity to explore the vital fields of design, planning, and sustainability. By earning an Associate of Arts in Environmental Planning and Design, you'll be prepared to start a career in sustainable architecture and landscape design fields.
Our program stands out as one of the few offered by community colleges, providing you with curriculum that aligns with CNM's broader commitment to sustainability. You’ll explore how built environments interact with natural ecosystems through environmental design courses such as Introduction to Environmental Problems, Introduction to Community and Regional Planning, and Sustainable Community Planning Methods. In Albuquerque, you can see the impact of these concepts through initiatives like the ABQ + UNM City Lab, which focuses on collaborative urban design, the We are This City program led by Max Baptiste, and the innovative Green Jeans Food Hall, which promotes sustainable agriculture and community engagement.
Upon graduation, you’ll have the option to seamlessly transfer to the University of New Mexico and pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Planning and Design, which can lead to advanced studies in areas such as Environmental Ethics, Historic Preservation, Landscape Design, Urban Design, and Environmental Law. Many graduates go on to work in state or municipal roles, as well as private firms focused on planning and development issues.
