Local Resources

  • PFLAG Albuquerque - Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is a national organization that promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, as well as their families and friends.
  • Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico - The Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico is being established in order to provide support, education, information, and assistance to the transgender population in the state of New Mexico and their families and loved ones.
  • UNM LGBTQ Resource Center - The UNM LGBTQ Resource Center strives to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all members of the University of New Mexico and the surrounding community. As a safe zone environment, we stand up against homophobia and value the worth and dignity of all people. Through education, we aim to bring a heightened visibility of the LGBTQ* community on campus and to issues that affect LGBTQ* individuals. Through leadership development, we promote a more civically engaged campus community committed to equality and equal opportunity for all people.
  • Albuquerque GLBT Chamber of Commerce - A business and professional group promoting LGBTQ and allied businesses in New Mexico. Our vision is the development of an inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable LGBTQ business community.
  • Casa Q- Homeless shelter for LGBTQ+ Youth - Casa Q provides safe living options and services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth, and allies who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
  • Equality New Mexico - EQNM develops and implements a variety of advocacy campaigns and outreach and education programs to create a supportive environment for systemic change.
  • Advocacy and Services for LGBT Elders - SAGE Albuquerque is the primary provider of support and social and educational programs for older LGBT people in Albuquerque. Working with local government agencies, providers, and other LGBTQ organizations, our goals are to educate the general public, service providers, and the LGBTQ community about the unique challenges older LGBT adults face and to connect them to opportunities for support. SAGE Albuquerque is a project of the Common Bond New Mexico Foundation, managed by an Advisory Committee.
  • Common Bond of New Mexico - Here at the Common Bond New Mexico Foundation, our mission is to strengthen the LGBTQ community of New Mexico through programs and partnerships that serve at-risk sectors of the LGBTQ population. Over the years, Common Bond has acquired programs begun by other organizations.  Currently Common Bond has three programs: Under 21, Emergency Project, and SAGE.   • Under 21 - For more than thirty years, Common Bond’s U-21 Project has provided one of the only places for Albuquerque’s LGBTQ youth to socialize in a safe, welcoming, and affirming environment. Every Friday night, Albuquerque youth under the age of 21, come together to discuss issues and play games in an environment free of bullying or judgment, an environment where every student can express their true self without fear of being teased, mistreated, or physically harmed. In a world where LGBT rights are still being debated, and members of the LGBT community are still victims of prejudice and abuse, organizations such as U-21 are critical to the health and well-being of our city’s youth. Participants in U-21 reflect a wide spectrum of race, religion, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • UNM Truman Health Services - Our multidisciplinary team of health professionals is made up of UNM faculty and UNM Medical Group providers and staff. We are committed to providing comprehensive healthcare that understands and appreciates the needs of the people we serve. NM Truman Health Services is an academic medical center committed to providing the highest level of care with compassion, respect for human dignity, and the right to privacy.
  • Southwest Care - Founded in 1996, Southwest CARE Center (SCC) is well known as a center of excellence for the care and treatment of people living with HIV in New Mexico. SCC is the largest provider of treatment for people living with Hepatitis C in northern New Mexico.  SCC is the largest clinical research site in New Mexico for studies of new treatments for both HIV and Hepatitis C.  In September 2015, SCC opened its doors in Albuquerque providing the same high standard of HIV care SCC is known for.
  • 24/7 Crisis Text Line - Crisis Text Line serves anyone, in any type of crisis, providing access to free, 24/7 support and information via a medium people already use and trust: text.
  • AGORA Crisis Line - Agora is New Mexico's totally free and confidential hotline that has served the New Mexico community since 1970.

  • Asexual Visibility and Education Network — "The world's largest online asexual community as well as a large archive of resources on asexuality."
  • Bisexual.org — "A voice to the bisexual community, share accurate information, answer questions, and provide resources for further learning."
  • Everyday Feminism — "Learn how to heal from and stand up to everyday violence, discrimination, and marginalization," with plenty of articles about class, gender, LGBTQIA issues, and race.
  • Get Real — "Comprehensive Sex Education That Works."
  • It's Pronounced Metrosexual — an online resource educating on issues of identity, sexuality, gender, privilege, and oppression, but in a fun, approachable way (by Safe Zone Project co-creator, Sam Killermann).
  • Soul Force — Family that travels and does speaking events, have a ton of materials on their site, and do an “equality ride” (super cool), all from a Christian perspective

Organizations Doing Good

  • GLAAD — Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. "GLAAD works with print, broadcast, and online news sources to bring people powerful stories from the LGBT community that build support for equality."
  • GLSEN — Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network. "Every day GLSEN works to ensure that LGBT students are able to learn and grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment."
  • Family Acceptance Project — "Research, intervention, education and policy initiative that works to prevent health and mental health risks for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) children and youth, including suicide, homelessness, and HIV – in the context of their families."
  • It Gets Better Project — "The It Gets Better Project's mission is to communicate to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth around the world that it gets better, and to create and inspire the changes needed to make it better for them."
  • National Gay and Lesbian Task Force — "The mission of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is to build the power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community from the ground up." They also run Creating Change the "largest annual gathering of LGBTQ activists, organizers, and leaders within the LGBT movement" in the US.
  • The “Not All Like That” (NALT) Project — videos of (awesome) Christians (mostly families) explaining how they fully support LGBTQ people and that being Christian shouldn’t mean being anti-gay.
