Steps for Class Schedule Certification

Follow these steps every term to certify your class schedule with the Veterans Resource Center.

You must be enrolled in an approved program of study and register for courses that count toward your program.

1. Meet with an Academic Advisor

You can schedule an appointment to meet with an academic advisor to help you with your course planning each semester. Make sure to choose courses required for your approved program of study.

2. Register for Class

After meeting with your advisor, register for your courses on myCNM.

3. Get Certified Every Term

After you register for classes, come into the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) at Main Campus Student Services Center to begin the process to certify your VA Benefits. Follow these steps below prior to visiting the VRC.

  • Download the VA Class Certification Form and your Chapter Information Sheet (download forms below).
  • Fill out, save, and print the VA Class Certification Form and Chapter Information Sheet.
  • Print your class myCNM schedule.
  • Bring all three sheets into the office.

VA Class Certification Forms

You can download and save each form on your computer, then you can fill out, print, sign, and return to us. Open in Adobe Acrobat Reader to fill out, sign, and save.

4. Check Your Eligibilities and Responsibilities

  • The VA determines your rate of pursuit based on when your classes start and end. To remain eligible for a monthly stipend for the entire term, you should enroll in courses that are in session for the entire length of the term.
  • Chapters 30, 35, 1606, and 1607 students are responsible for the cost of their courses and books each semester.
  • Chapter 31 students are only responsible for the cost of the courses that the VA will not be certifying as well as any books and supplies required for those courses.
  • Chapter 33 students are responsible for the cost of the courses that the VA will not be certifying and will not receive a book stipend for those courses. Also, Chapter 33 students are responsible for any percentage the VA will not be paying.
  • Chapter 33 students will go through an enhanced certification process. Please submit your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or Statement of Benefits for the initial certification.
