Closures or Delays Due to Weather
When the CNM District gets snow or other weather that makes travel dangerous, CNM may close or have delays for campuses affected. Other campuses not affected by the weather will stay open, since missing many classes due to weather can impact the fulfillment of course and program requirements of accrediting bodies.
Examples:
- If Rio Rancho has inclement winter weather, but Albuquerque does not, then Rio Rancho Campus and the AMREP facility may close or be on delay. All other campuses stay on their regular schedule (Rio Rancho Campus and the AMREP facility will always have the same schedule).
- If winter weather is only affecting the far Northeast Heights, the Montoya Campus may close or be on delay. All other campuses stay on their regular schedule.
When the majority of the CNM District is being affected by weather, then all campuses may close or operate on an abbreviated schedule. Online classes are not affected by the weather and will operate as usual.
Abbreviated Schedules
When a CNM campus operates on an abbreviated schedule, the CNM campus will stay closed until the announced opening time.
Students and Faculty
- All classes scheduled to dismiss before the announced opening time will not meet.
- Classes with a start time before the announced opening time that dismisses less than 45 minutes after the announced opening time will not meet.
- Classes with a start time before the announced opening time that dismisses 45 minutes or more after the announced opening time will meet at the announced opening time and dismiss at the regularly scheduled ending time.
- Classes that begin at or after the announced opening time will meet as usual.
-
Refer to your syllabus for classes that are not held at CNM facilities (high schools, UNM, clinical sites, etc.) to prepare for how the weather affects those sites.
For example, if CNM announces a 10 a.m. opening time:
- A class that begins before 10 a.m. and dismisses at 10:45 a.m. or later would meet at 10 a.m.
- A class that begins before 10 a.m. and dismisses before 10:45 a.m. would not meet.
Employees
- All nonessential personnel whose workday begins at or before the announced opening time will report at the announced opening time.
- All nonessential personnel whose workday begins after the announced opening time will report at their regularly scheduled time.
- Essential personnel will report to work at their regularly scheduled time or as soon after as possible.
If an employee cannot safely report to work at the required time because of the weather, they have the option of taking leave with their supervisor’s consent. All supervisors at CNM should discuss and address the various possibilities with their employees and be prepared for individual campus closures.
